DAA/OKC Fires up Lane Activity with "Cash Grab", Increased Consignment

The New Year is off to an exciting start at Dealers Auto Auction of Oklahoma City (DAA/OKC) with a "Cash Grab" promotion on January 14, the return of GM closed sale vehicles to the auction lane, and the introduction of a major new consignor in February.

"Our buyers and sellers experienced a tumultuous market in 2009, but we're off and running in 2010 in Oklahoma City," said DAA/OKC General Manager Bruce Beam. "We wanted to have some fun for our first big promotion of the year and had a great time as two of our dealers "grabbed" for cash, one at the beginning and one at the end of the sale. The promise of an opportunity to grab all the cash you could handle kept buyers in the lanes to the very end of the sale, and prompted them to keep their hands in the air, knowing that every vehicle they purchased increased their chances to 'make the grab'.

Dennis Huysman and David McQuerry took their turns in the "Cash Vault" at DAA/OKC on January 14, "grabbing" a total of $796.

Beam reports that 1,303 vehicles were consigned to the January 14 sale at DAA/OKC. A total of 522 dealers checked in for the promotional sale, buying 757 units for a sale rate of 58%.

Winning their turns in the Cash Grab Booth at DAA/OKC were Dennis Huysman of MAA Investments, and David McQuerry of McQuerry Motors. Their winnings were tallied at a combined total of $796.

In addition to the end-of-sale drawings, buyers in individual lanes qualified for a number of prizes:  an IPod Touch in the HSBC lane; a Garmin GPS System in the Ford Credit Lane ; and a 32-inch flat-screen TV in the AmeriCredit Lane .

GM Closed Sale Vehicles Return to the Lane

On Tuesday, January 12, GM dealers were thrilled to see the return of GM closed sale vehicles to the auction lane at DAA/OKC. For the past several months, the GM Closed sales had been held entirely online, but with the New Year, dealers at the auction were able to bid on units as they rolled across the auction block.

"When you buy a GM vehicle at a closed sale, you're always secure in the quality of the unit, " said Paul Shirley, a frequent GM buyer at DAA/OKC. "But when I'm at the auction, there's just something about being able to touch the car, and walk around it for a better look, that makes the process that much more satisfying."

DAA/OKC sold 161 GM vehicles at Tuesday's sale, and in keeping with the "Cash Grab" theme of the week, GM buyers qualified for an end-of-sale cash drawing. Two buyers were pick to choose from among 11 envelopes, 9 of them containing $100 each, and two envelopes containing $200. Jeff Jones of Pearl Chevrolet won $100; while Aaron London of Bob Howard Chevrolet chose an envelope containing a $200 Visa cash card..

Chrysler Financial Joins Sale Line-up at DAA/OKC

Beam also announced that a new consignor would be joining the auction's sale day line-up in February. According to Beam, Chrysler Financial will be offering more than 500 units at DAA/OKC in the month of February.

Opened in 1988 by owner and president Gary Smith, DAA/OKC hosts a GM Factory Sponsored Auction every other Tuesday at 10 am, and a regular consignment sale every Thursday at 8:30 am. Located on 125 acres, the auction includes 11 auction lanes, a full service restaurant, and over 130,000 square feet of recon, mechanical and body/paint shop facilities. Offering 1,200 to 1,500 vehicles at its weekly sales, DAA/OKC delivers the highest sales percentage of any independent auction in the region.
