Kansas
City Independent Auto Auction Slated to Open All-New Facility in July
Boxes
are being packed, furniture is being transported and hundreds of
cars and trucks are scheduled for the 40 mile trip down the freeway
from Elwood, Kansas to Kansas City, Missouri as Kansas City
Independent Auto Auction prepares for the opening of its new
facility in July. Construction was started in October of last year,
and auction officials are targeting a mid-July date for the
inaugural sale in the auction's new home.
The
auction, which has been doing business as the Kansas Auto Auction in
Elwood, Kansas, will open with a new name (Kansas City Independent
Auto Auction), in a new state (Missouri), 40 miles from its current
site where it has been operating since 1978. The new facility will
include a 20,000 square foot building housing business offices and
six auction lanes in the selling arena, a full service restaurant,
on-site PDR and dealer lockers. The dealer lot will provide parking
for 350 vehicles while the storage lot will accommodate 900
vehicles.
Even
as the auction eyes its move to the new facility and its grand
opening, auction officials are planning for Phases II of the
project, which will include additional parking for 1300 vehicles and
a test track, and is set for completion in the Fall. Phase III,
planned for Spring of 2009, calls for the building of a 10,000
square foot state-of-the-art recon facility.
The
new auction is situated on 71 acres, just off Interstate 29 and five
minutes from the Kansas City Airport. Auction owner Doug Doll
reports that neither the Elwood auction nor the new facility have
been significantly affected by the heavy rains that have plagued the
Midwest in recent weeks, although the weather has caused some minor
construction delays.
"We've
been forced to wait for some dry days to finish the asphalt at the
new auction, but everything else is progressing, and we're all
looking forward to moving into the new facility," said Doll.
"After 29 years in Elwood, Kansas, we've outgrown our space.
We're looking forward to welcoming our customers to a beautiful new
home in July for our first sale and are planning a big official
grand opening in September."
The
address of the new facility is 11101 North Congress, Kansas City,
Missouri. The auction holds a dealer consignment sale every Thursday,
offering vehicles for sale in the lane and online with Pipeline
Simulcast. It is also a member of the National Auto Auction
Association and uses the AutoIMS inventory management system. The
auction can be reached on the web at www.kciaa.com.
