YES!
It's
Greg Mahugh--auction owner
by day....rock
star by night!
Greg
Mahugh, co-owner of DAA Northwest, plays electric guitar with the
Cronkites, which has warmed up the crowds at DAA Northwest's annual
Rock & Roll sale, "opening" for such as legends as the
Wallflowers, The Doobie Brothers, and Huey Lewis on the Spokane
stage. His most recent appearance was in the nation's capital, when
he and the Cronkites were the featured entertainment at the
Inauguration…..not Barak Obama's, but auction partner Bob
McConkey's as president of the National Auto Auction
Association.
Greg's
love of music began back in the day when transistor radios were all
the rage…. before anyone knew what an ipod or a walkman was.
Fascinated by hit radio, he would fall asleep with his radio under
his pillow. He started playing bass guitar when he was 14, after two
friends invited him to join a band if he could find an instrument..
His mother obliged with the purchase of his first guitar, and he
played through high school, focusing on the classic rock/school
dance scene. His music evolved to rock, R&B and even punk with
his Seattle band, The Fallouts. They played mostly private parties
because one member of the group was underage, but that didn't stop
them from appearing at Doc Maynard's in Seattle's Pioneer Square
(they lied about the guitar player's age).
By
1982, Greg found that his time was being consumed by a new
girlfriend (now his wife Karin), the auction business and an old
house that needed just about everything redone, so he put the guitar
away for several years. But, after he moved to Spokane, he dusted
off the bass to play at his church, and eventually got together with
some local rockers. An auction customer, Bob Sletner had a band
called the Cronkites, and, after an early Rock & Roll Sale, Bob
and Greg talked about playing as the opening act for the next year's
show. Greg joins the Cronkites occasionally for other dates besides
the Rock and Roll sale, and says that he's lucky to be able to sit
in with good friends in such a talented band. Even after the rush of
opening for the legends of the rock & roll world, Greg says his
favorite venue is in the backyard with a group of friends and his
acoustic guitar on a warm summer Spokane evening.
