YOU'RE RIGHT!

Meet Kevin Brown…..city cop, undercover detective, crime fighter…..and now general manager and owner of the Missouri Auto Auction.  Before Brown even knew what an auto auction was, he worked for the police force in St. Louis.  After working the streets as a beat cop for four years, he was promoted to the detective bureau, working undercover to catch car thieves.  

 “I graduated from the police academy when I was 22 years old,” Brown explains, “and in my five years on the force I saw a little bit of everything.  With one of the highest crime rates in the country, there's plenty in St. Louis to keep a cop busy.”

 After a year working undercover, Brown started looking to the world beyond St. Louis, and thought seriously about working for the FBI or the Secret Service. But those plans abruptly changed at a family get-together.  It was during a birthday party for his niece that Kevin struck up a conversation with Doug Doll about the auction business (Doug and Kevin share a brother-in-law); it was a conversation that changed Brown’s life forever.

 “Doug told me that Gregg Boswell had just opened an auction in Columbia and encouraged me to go to work for him,” remembers Brown.  “I’d never heard of an auto auction before, but after thinking about it for a couple of days, I drove up to Columbia to talk to Gregg.  The next day I told the force that I was leaving, and within three months I’d moved my family to Columbia .”

 Brown says that changing careers and embracing the auction business was the best move he’s ever made.  After his initial hire, he has worked his way up through the auction ranks, becoming sales manager, then general manager, and buying into the company in August of 2007.

 “I’ve never looked back,” says Brown.  “This is a great business, with great people, and there’s always plenty of activity! I can't imagine a better or more exciting career!"
