John Rea Serves as NAAA President for 2008 Term
John Rea, managing partner of Rea Brothers Mid-South Auto Auction, Pearl, MS, has been elected president of the National Auto Auction Association (NAAA).
The presidential gavel was passed during the association's annual convention held in Chicago this September. Rea began his career in 1972 at his family owned auction business. For over 20 years, he and the business have been active association members. John previously served as the association's 2007 president elect, and in 2006 as vice president. In addition to his present presidential role, he leads a NAAA Technology
Task Force that is currently working on a single source, auction inventory, access portal for wholesale buyers and sellers.
NAAA's 60th Anniversary occurs during Rea's
presidential term, and earmarks the association's success in serving the industry since 1948. NAAA's has 373 auction member businesses operating in 18 countries, with more than 92 million remarketing transactions over the past 10 years.

Continues ServNet Tradition of Active Leadership
Rea has said that he loves the fast pace of the auction business, saying that “you’ve got to be able to keep 10 balls in the air at one time to be successful.” His new responsibilities as president of the NAAA, and new developments at the auction
facility, will add even more to his already busy life. Since becoming the newest auction to join the ServNet Auction Group, a move that took place in April, Rea said his auction is picking up additional business because more dealers nationwide are eyeing his inventory nationwide through the group’s Auction Pipeline. And, he currently serves on ServNet’s Board of Directors.
ServNet auction owners have set a precedent for involved, active leadership, and Rea joins an eminent group of independent auction principals who have also served as NAAA president: Larry Brasher, Alexis Jacobs, Larry Tribble and Henry Stanley. Working as Rea’s vice president during his term of office will be fellow ServNet owner Bob McConkey, slated to assume duties as NAAA President in 2009.
As the new NAAA president, Rea is looking forward to helping steer the association and add even great value to the NAAA’s 370+ members. In addition to the online inventory search portal, other projects on the front burner include exploring the idea of hiring an economist for the NAAA to help decipher trends in the industry, and considering the possibility of allowing salvage auctions to become members.
“This is a huge industry, and we’re looking for ways we can work together, to join forces for the common good,” said Rea.
“There is so much happening behind the scenes at NAAA,” concludes Rea. “I’m excited about our future, and I encourage everyone to get involved, either at the zone level or nationally. What I have found by participating in the association is that you’re right there when problems surface and solutions are found. In the end, it helps your business – our business – our industry.”
