Doug Stack Joins
20-Year Club at State Line Auto Auction
Doug
Stack has spent two decades washing, polishing, repairing and
transporting vehicles at State Line Auto Auction, and he’s still
going strong. But the auction came to a halt briefly as Jeff Barber
took to the block at the beginning of its Friday sale to make a
special presentation to Stack, welcoming him into State Line’s
20-Year Club.
Stack
is one of a growing number of employees who have worked at State
Line Auto Auction for twenty or more years. Auction owner Jeff
Barber praised Stack, who is the auction’s transportation manager,
as “easy-going, level-headed and a tremendous multi-tasker” who
has developed an excellent rapport with both fellow employees and
auction customers since coming to work for State Line Auto Auction
in 1988.
“The
transportation department is one of the busiest offices here at
State Line, and Doug handles it with ease,” said Barber.
Stack
remembers that he came to work at the auction in the summer at the
urging of a friend. Though he considered joining the Air Force, the
auction business soon got “Into his blood” and he stayed,
cleaning cars, working in the recon department, working on the lot,
repairing cars in the body shop, and spending time in the
arbitration and registration departments before being promoted to
head the transportation department nine years ago. He also handles
post-sale inspections on sale day.

Stack, Transportation Manager, with a commemorative
clock. Stack is the auction's newest member of the
Twenty Year Club. |
“The
auction business is exciting,” said Stack. “I can’t imagine
another job that has the kind of atmosphere that the auction has.
Jeff Barber is a great person to work for. All he asks is that you
do a good job…and he appreciates it when you do. I’ll be here at
State Line as long as there’s a Barber running it!”
