ServNet's Next Generation Owners Build on Family Legacies as They Plan for Future

As ServNet observes its 30th anniversary in 2018, the group plans for its future guided not only by the independent auction owners who have spent a lifetime in the business, but also by members of the next generation who work to ensure the ongoing success of some of the most successful auto auctions in the country. Those next generation owners are making their marks on the daily operations of their auction locations, and have developed into strong, capable, visionary leaders, as they continue the pattern set by their parents in building the family businesses. They are also filling leadership positions in the industry, most notably as members of ServNet's Board of Directors. Serving a two-year term as ServNet's President is second-generation owner Eric Autenrieth (Carolina Auto Auction and Indiana Auto Auction). Three next generation owners also hold seats on the Board: Beth Barber (State Line Auto Auction), Steve DeLuca (Auto Auction of New England), and Ashley Dietze (San Antonio Auto Auction).

Remarketers Continue to Recognize ServNet Auctions for Excellence

ServNet Auctions have figured prominently in the many awards for service and performance announced by the remarketing community in the first quarter of 2018. That trend continues as more ServNet locations have been cited for excellence by leading national consignors. 

Akron Auto Auction received the 2017 Don Roccia Auction "P.R.I.D.E" Award from Credit Acceptance/VRS. Akron Auto Auction takes its place alongside two other ServNet Auctions receiving awards this year from Credit Acceptance/VRS: Greater Rockford Auto Auction and State Line Auto Auction

Two other ServNet auctions were named best in their regions for Merchants Fleet Management. Cited as Auction of the Year in the Midwest was Indiana Auto Auction, and as Auction of the Year in the West was Metro Auto Auction Phoenix

Westlake Financial also recently announced its top auctions in the country. Out of the 70 auctions used by Westlake nationwide, BSC America's Bel Air Auto Auction and KCI Kansas City were among the five auctions recognized. Westlake uses a proprietary scoring model to evaluate each auto auction monthly. The Auction of the Year winners received the highest scores out of the 70 auctions Westlake partnered with in 2017 

"These set the bar for top service levels in 2017," said William Walters, VP of Remarketing at Westlake Financial Services.

DAA Northwest and Toyota  Financial Services Support Boys & Girls Clubs of Spokane County

Toyota Financial Services' Area Representative John Martinez recently joined DAA Northwest's Bob McConkey and David Pendergraft in presenting $16,000 to Boys & Girls Clubs of Spokane County. Toyota Financial Services (TFS) has provided funding to Boys & Girls Clubs of America for the past 11 years. In addition to monetary support, hundreds of TFS employees have volunteered to help students through mentoring, speech writing and public speaking assistance. 

"TFS' commitment to children and families is in synch with DAA Northwest's community support program," says DAA Northwest's President and CEO Bob McConkey. "For years, DAA Northwest has partnered with many organizations that lend support to our area's youth. Contributing to Toyota's fundraiser benefitting Boys & Girls Clubs of Spokane County was right in line with our giving philosophy."

Martinez, who represents Toyota Financial Services each month in DAA Northwest's lanes, joined McConkey and Pendergraft for a tour of the Lisa Stiles-Gyllenhammer Club in Mead, Washington. 

"It was great to personally see how our contributions can help kids benefit from before-and-after-school programs, healthy meals, recreation programs and more," says Martinez.

"Over the years, the need for safe and positive places for kids to go at high-risk times when school is out has risen at an alarming rate," stated Hanlin. "Fortunately, the Clubs are able to provide those essential services and magnet programs to thousands of kids a year for only $20 a year thanks to the generosity of amazing partners like DAA Northwest and Toyota Financial Services."

BSC America's Bel Air Auto Auction has announced the addition of three new consignors to the Thursday sale lineup at its new facility in Belcamp, Maryland. BSC America's President, R. Charles Nichols, reports that in the first quarter of 2018 Credit Acceptance/VRS, BB&T/Regional Acceptance Corporation and Toyota Financial/Lexus Financial have been running vehicles at Bel Air Auto Auction, meeting with an enthusiastic response from buyers in the lanes and online.

The new Bel Air Auto Auction facility opened in September of last year to rave reviews from buyers and sellers alike. Sited on 185 acres, the facility includes a 75,000-square foot, 10-lane auction facility, restaurant and administrative office building, as well as a separate state-of-the-art 50,000 square foot Vehicle Enhancement Center which houses both mechanical and body shops, reconditioning bays, paint booths and an imaging center. A separate building provides a streamlined check-in facility for dealers and transporters.

Bel Air Auto Auction was recently named Westlake's 2017 Auction of the Year in the Northeast Region. Bel Air Auto Auction was also lauded by OVE for Best Commercial Mix at the OVE.com awards in Las Vegas.

Akron Auto Auction Introduces First Virtual Lane

In early April, Akron Auto Auction (AAA) added a new in-lane experience to its weekly Tuesday Sale. This new lane - called the Virtual Lane - operates similarly to a tow lane in the sense that the units are located off site and shown on the in-lane TV monitors for bidders to view. Unlike a tow lane, however, the Virtual Lane consists of higher end green-light units, equipped with full condition reports. These units remain at the dealership to extend and increase their retail selling opportunity. If a vehicle sells on sale day, the vehicle will then be picked up and offered a post-sale inspection.

In the week leading up to the sale, a team of AAA Condition Report writers traveled to the various dealership locations to take high quality pictures and to complete condition reports. These reports were made available online for potential bidders to view in anticipation of Tuesday's sale.

To further accommodate bidders on sale day, a 55 inch high resolution monitor was added in Lane 1 that provided a continuous scroll of vehicle information with scannable bar codes. Marketing materials such as booklets, poster boards, and flyers were also provided to ensure that dealers were prepared to bid. 

"The first virtual sale was a success. We were able to sell vehicles for each of the six dealerships that participated," reports Brigette Shepler, auction sales account representative. 

In its debut, Akron Auto Auction's Virtual Lane included 21 vehicles from 6 different dealerships.

Akron Auto Auction plans on running a Virtual Lane once a month and expects the lane to grow in size going forward. 


Louisiana's 1st Choice A/A Gears Up for the Future

Louisiana's 1st Choice Auto Auction (LAFCAA) is preparing for the next phase of auction growth, announcing several key changes to its management team.

"We have worked hard over the last 15 years to groom a team of professionals to take over management of the auction. With several key top-level people approaching retirement age we need to ensure the continuation of LAFCAA and its success in the industry." says Managing Partner, John Poteet. 

Poteet reports that as of March 5, Don Sistrunk, formerly the auction's General Manager has moved into a new, part-time role, working as an advisor to the Executive Team and to John. Matt Alombro has been appointed Auction Manager, responsible for all operations of the auction. Jacob Warren has been promoted to General Sales and Marketing Manager. He will be responsible for integrating sales, marketing, promotions, and public relations activities of the auction. Jacob will work closely with Alombro to ensure that all

Other recent promotions include Tenna Cooper to the post of Inside Sales and Administrative Manager; Andy Poteet to E-Commerce Manager; Jeff Martin to Consignor Sales Manager; and Katie Alombro to Business Manager.

Carolina Auto Auction Hosts 3-Day Charity Event to Benefit Cancer Research

Carolina Auto Auction (CAA) is hosting its 13th Annual Charity Golf Tournament on May 15th with plans to make this its biggest tournament to date. The Southeast's largest independent auto auction has added two special days to the annual golf classic, and this year's 3-day event will all benefit melanoma research at The Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University.

Monday, May 14th kicks off the festivities with a special Legacy Dinner and VIP Auction, featuring special guest speaker Frank Martin, current head coach of the University of South Carolina basketball team, which made the Final Four in 2017. CAA is currently selling tickets to the dinner and auction, where 8-10 items, including a Bret Michaels signed guitar, a Charlie Daniels fiddle, and a Wheel of Fortune prize package that includes tickets to the show, will be auctioned off. 

The event continues on Tuesday, May 15th with the 4-man Captain's Choice tournament held at The Walker Course at Clemson University with a 12:00pm Shotgun Start. The auction is once again bringing Miss South Carolina in as a special guest. CAA will also have unique items available to win after the golf tournament for those who participated in the golf's raffle for charity. In conjunction with the tournament, 

Carolina Auto Auction will hold its 3rd charity raffle that runs from April 11 - May 16th with over 30 highly valued items available to win. Tickets are $20 for a book of 25 to enter into the prize boxes, and they are on sale now! Anyone may participate and the items are available for view on the CAA Facebook page. 

The auction also expects at least 1200 units for the sale on May 16th. Each week 600+ car dealers converge on Anderson, SC to buy vehicles.


Greenville Auto Auction Greets Spring with Exciting Promotion, Specialty Sale

April started off strong for Greenville Auto Auction (GAA) with a great sale including 121 BB&T/RAC units sold. The auction began a new promotion for BB&T/RAC called Game Central. During this promotion, the top buyer and two random buyers from the previous BB&T/RAC sale have the opportunity to win money by playing a game prior to the sale. This is just another way GAA creates a fun environment for its dealers.

GAA is continuing the great month with its AdrenaLANE Sale. On April 18th, the Wednesday night prior to the regular Thursday sale, the auction will spotlight special units in Eastern North Carolina including RVs, quads, muscles cars, boats, motorcycles and more. GAA will serve hors d'oeuvres to dealers prior this sale.
